Inspired by the photos on the moodboard, I wrote and designed a book that explores themes of economic inequality, the ills of capitalism, and solidarity.
The design elements in the book represent aspects of swimming, while also serving as metaphors for the depth and despair of economic hardship.
synopsis
This fictional story is set in 2005 at a public high school in a (mostly) wealthy community in North Carolina. Due to budget cuts, teams are being required to come up with their own funding in order to stay afloat. The majority of the girls just get their wealthy parents to write a check, but Jen and Julie are from lower income households. Unable to meet the fundraising minimum, the coach reluctantly asks the two girls to turn in their uniforms. Read the e-book to find out what happens!
